His research has generated a significant national and international research profile. John is the recipient of eight ARC grants in addition to an excellent record of internal funding. John’s research focusses on cardiovascular regulation, osmoregulation, and more recently, the control of appetite and energy balance, and uses a diverse range of animal models such as fishes, amphibians, reptiles and mammals.
The primary theme is to use an integrated approach to reveal the physiological control systems in animals from diverse environments in order to understand how these systems have evolved and contribute to the maintenance of homeostasis. John has a productive research collaboration with the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute.
