Paige’s PhD investigates the relationship between gut transit rate, environmental temperature and diet in Atlantic salmon, ensuring their welfare over a demanding summer.
Paige’s PhD will investigate the modulation of gut transit rate in Atlantic salmon held under normal and sub-optimally high water temperatures, typical of the summer growing season in Tasmania. Furthermore, this project will assess the potential to influence gut transit rate via changes to the diet with a view of optimising nutrient uptake and ensuring the continued welfare of Atlantic salmon farmed under increasingly challenging summer conditions.
