Shoaib is an Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin University

Shoaib is an aquaculture nutritionist who completed a Master’s degree from the Ghent University, Belgium and a PhD at Curtin University, Australia.  His main research areas include a) investigating various feed-additives in aquafeeds for improved immunocompetence and sustainability; b) nutrient enrichment of feed ingredient through bioprocessing/fermentation; and c) physiological adaptations of aquatic species when raised in high temperature. All these research areas are aimed at improving the sustainability of aquaculture industry. Currently, Shoaib is focussing on the use of seaweed extracts/phenolics to improve the productivity of aquaculture through sustainable and environmentally friendly means, which also involves the use of custom-made feed additives including pre and probiotics as an alternative to antibiotics in aquaculture towards the production of fish and seafood for a growing global population.
